Kaiser Permanente RN - Preop Coordinator (0.5 FTE, Capitol Hill) in Seattle, Washington

As the Preop Coordinator you will:

Coordinate the pre-op process to assure the appropriate flow of patient preparation, required information and forms.

Act as a resource to staff and providers in the specialty clinics and surgery center.

Assure that exams, labs and other testing are completed and documented per Anesthesia guidelines.

Assure that charts are fully prepared for surgical or other procedures and that all healthcare providers have the necessary information to provide/coordinate care.

Collaborate w/ anesthesiologists to assure complete chart preparation. Communicates follow up needed. Cooperates and communicates effectively with other team members in order to accomplish the unit workload.

Support the provision of patient care in a safe, comfortable, and private environment.

Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for professional practice, continued professional growth, and self-evaluation.

Provide leadership direction and clinical supervision to the patient care technicians and other non-licensed staff on the healthcare team

Experience requirements:

Minimum:

Recent experience in surgery setting, either operating room or a Perianesthesia care unit or PACU/ Preop.

Preferred:

Acute and/or Ambulatory surgery center experience in OR, pre-op, Phase I & II Recovery:

Knowledge requirements

Minimum:

Communication, problem-solving, leadership and decision-making skills.

Critical thinking and application of the nursing process.

Applies the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to fulfill the professional role functions of an RN in perioperative environment.

Applies knowledge of preoperative requirements including informed consent, history and physical exam, Preop testing, anesthesia evaluation, NPO and medication guidelines

Applies knowledge of surgical procedures and patient education relevant to the procedure

Knowledge of ASPAN and AORN standards

Intermediate computer and keyboarding skills in a Windows-based environment

Sufficient computer skills and keyboarding speed and accuracy to assure accurate documentation while maintaining productivity standards.

Education requirements

Minimum:

Nursing Degree from an accredited RN program.

Preferred:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Certification requirements

Minimum:

Current Washington State RN License.

Preferred:

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Certification in Perianesthesia nursing (Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse: CPAN or Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse: CAPA)
