Kaiser Permanente RN Oncology/Pulmonary Nurse Navigator (1.0 FTE, Capitol Hill) in Seattle, Washington
This new position will provide coordination of care for newly identified lung cancer patients, those undergoing treatment and those with lung cancer recurrence. The navigator will guide the patient and their family through the complex healthcare system, working to eliminate barriers and facilitate continuity of care and enhance the patient experience.
The navigator will work in collaboration with the physicians and care team to effectively manage patients by pro-actively contacting newly diagnosed lung cancer patients. Using in-depth knowledge of cancer and cancer treatment, the navigator will provide education about the cancer, how it is diagnosed and general treatment options. The navigator will assist the care team and various Kaiser Permanente and external entities using clinical knowledge and judgment to expedite care and support the patient through the cancer care experience. The navigator monitors patient progress and intervenes to empower patients and families to manage their care and the disease. The navigator will communicate with and educate primary care and specialty providers and office staff on available services.
Minimum: Graduate of an accredited RN program and a Bachelor-s Degree
Preferred: Bachelors or Masters Degree in Nursing
Licensure: Active WA state RN license required at time of hire
Certification: Achieve OCN certification or Navigation Certification within 2 years of hire
Experience: 3 yr recent Pulmonary or oncology experience or 2 years experience as an oncology nurse navigator
Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum: Excellent communication skills both written and verbal; empathy and ability to provide compassionate counseling and support to patients and family; effective problem solving and critical thinking; broad knowledge of the health care system and oncology support resources within Kaiser Permanente and the community.
