The Case Writer/Developer is responsible for coordinating, writing, updating, and curating patient cases across multiple phases of the medical school curriculum. Reporting to the Director of Medical Education, he/she will ensure that cases are relevant, evidence based, and methodologically sound. The Case Writer/Developer will also work with various stakeholders to digitize cases in the learning management system, create the cases in our Electronic Medical Record, and support unfolding cases in simulation and standardized patient arenas. He/she will also collaborate across all faculty groups to ensure content is mapped to learning objectives and assessment methods.
Contribute to the creation of structured learning experiences in various medical school subject areas using current theories of higher education and adult learning.
Work with the medical education team, including instructional and visual designers, as well as subject matter experts, to write and continually improve high-quality and compelling teaching/learning materials for case-based and small-group learning, including hypothetical medical scenarios and scripts for video and narration of cases.
Write reference guides, assessments, surveys, and other curricular materials as assigned.
Produce training materials with appropriate tone that resonate with a diverse group of students and faculty. Assist in establishing faculty writing guides that define standards for teaching/learning materials.
Help develop new learning experiences that effectively teach core medical education competencies, and engage and excite medical students.
Stay abreast of innovation in the field of medical education, and in collaboration with the medical education team, apply innovations and updated best practices to case development.
Collaborate with the medical education team to produce scholarship on case-based learning as a pedagogical technique.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in health care professional education or medical education, and case-based curriculum.
Minimum two (2) years of experience developing instructional materials.
- Bachelor's degree in education, healthcare, or related field
License, Certification, Registration
Portfolio of cases or other curricular materials developed/worked on by the applicant.
Experience in a medical school or case-based curriculum setting.
Understanding of case-based learning, team-based learning, problem-based learning, and other interactive teaching methodologies.
Understanding of learner-centered theories and principles, as well as instructional design methodologies.
Outstanding writing skills and attention to detail.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to incorporate new learning tools and applications to improve educational materials.
Experience with writing cases, identifying and building topic outlines, and determining course content and sequencing.
Experience developing student-centered learning experiences.
Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools and other relevant technologies.
Experience creating simulations, standardized patient scenarios, electronic medical record scenarios, and small-group learning.
Master's degree in educational design, education, public health, or related field.
