The Senior Vice President of Financial Planning has an important role partnering across the organization on the advancement of our mission. As a member of the finance leadership team the senior vice president will:

  • Be responsible for the organizations 10-year economic plan, annual budget, monthly forecasting, operating performance and capital planning.

  • Provide financial reporting and analysis that inform and enable the achievement of strategic and financial goals throughout the program.

  • Bring information and analysis forward to support critical decision making by the National Executive Team (NET), the Kaiser Permanente Partnership Group (KPPG), Regional Presidents Group, Enterprise Shared Services, Strategic Planning and the finance community.

  • Be a critical strategic and financial thought partner for both regional and national leadership including the advancement of affordability strategies and plans which are critical to KP-s mission.

  • Develop and nurture a strong financial planning team across the organization.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Financial Planning:In partnership with the regions, national functions and shared services, provide leadership for the 10-year economic plan, annual budget, monthly forecasting and operating performance which strengthens the strategic and financial performance of the organization.

  • Develop internal and external benchmarking to help identify opportunities that inform the planning process and highlight potential performance opportunities.

  • Ensure a balanced capital portfolio that creates value for organization, meets the needs of our growing membership and advances our integrated care delivery system. Accountabilities include the review and recommendations for individual business cases to the Capital Approval Committee. Capital planning also monitors the benefit realization from each project.

  • Advance excellence in Financial Planning and Analysis including process improvements, standardization and capability development that meets the evolving needs of the organization more efficiently and effectively.

  • Build exceptional financial, analytical and project management tools and skills within the financial planning team and across the organization to better partner with the business to ensure performance is maximized and sustained. This includes turning data into actionable intelligence, partnering to develop creative solutions and providing trusted expert advice supported be data analytics.

  • Communicate across the organization and externally on KP economic plans, financial performance and cost trends. Presentations include the Board of Directors, National Executive Team, Regional Leaders, bond agencies and major customers.

  • Regional CFO and Functional Finance Leaders

  • Provide leadership to the regional CFO-s outside California to ensure each region is growing, financially sustainable and delivering leading quality.

  • Support the business unit finance leaders and regional CFO-s in facilitating and problem-solving critical issues or barriers to success.

  • Additional Key Responsibilities:Ensure financial stewardship and operational competencies that meet changing business needs efficiently and effectively.

  • Partner with the organization to develop Medicare and Medicaid strategies which deliver cost structure improvement plans that position Kaiser Permanente to successfully and sustainably grow these important lines of business, while meeting affordability targets and achieving top level performance in quality and service.

  • Build recruitment channels and capabilities to hire high-potential talent and become an employer of choice for finance. This includes developing and deploying talent to realize the maximum potential and benefit for the finance organization, the company and the individuals.

Basic Qualifications: Experience

  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in a senior leadership role preferably in the health care industry and/or integrated delivery systems.


  • Bachelor-s degree required.
