Department Functions:

Government Relations supports the mission of Kaiser Permanente by ensuring that KP's values are put into action through public policy.

Description of Intern Responsibilities:

The intern will work with the communications manager accountable for the Institute for Health Policy (IHP)'s portfolio. IHP is a part of Government Relations, and puts on convenings, puts out research papers, and generally serves as an in-house think tank. The intern will be responsible for taking on a specific project to update the outreach and communications capabilities, which will to some extent be determined by their own skillset and interests.

Essential Functions:

  • Contributing to a designated project or initiative to meet a KP business objective.

  • Report development and analytics.

  • Project management - planning, execution, and measurement.

  • Learning new applications needed to complete assignments or support the execution of business objectives.

  • Job shadowing in other functional areas.

  • Performing additional duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:


  • N/A


  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or have graduated from an accredited university within the last year.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

  • N/A

Additional Requirements:

  • Aptitude to perform data and process analytics and formulating solutions

  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3.0 GPA or above.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships as well as strong interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to learn quickly and experience producing high quality work in short periods of time.

Desired Skills: Basis in communications, preferably some political campaign experience and/or research experience. Ability to manage social media.
