Kaiser Permanente Director Organization Development in Oakland, California

This positon leads the regional organizational development function. Provides expert OD consulting to senior leaders. Gives input to shape the regional talent management & organizational development strategy. Responsible for developing implementation plans and the resource deployment to execute OD strategies for regional wide initiatives. Leads team of Sr. OD Consultants to support NCRLT and OD Consultants imbedded in the Service Areas / Medical Centers. Supports strategy and plans to gain alignment of the culture for strategic regional business initiatives (ie: Shared Agenda, NCAL 6 Strategic Focus Areas, High Reliability Organization). Scope of services includes: change management, strategic & business planning, organizational design & integration, group & team development, executive coaching, culture, and climate assessment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Organizational Effectiveness /Strategic Planning - Partner with Regional and Human Resources Leadership to assess and identify required organizational change initiatives to ensure resources are aligned with the region's strategic direction. Partner with Regional and Human Resources Leadership to identify and implement strategies for organizational performance improvement. Ensure that organizational effectiveness and strategic planning initiatives align with and support Regional business initiatives.

  • Change Leadership - Provide consultation and expertise to Regional Leadership on change management and process improvement efforts designed to facilitate and support the attainment of key organizational objectives and initiatives. In partnership with Human Resources and Regional Leadership, anticipate and plan for emerging organizational needs and requirements relative to human capital. Consult and partner with Regional Leadership to develop and implement strategies to improve organizational performance and effectiveness. Develop innovative and actionable solutions to support the delivery of HR excellence across the region. Develop metrics to determine effectiveness of change initiatives.

  • Organizational Development Leadership - Provide leadership to the Regional Organizational Development Team. Model best in class / innovative approaches to change leadership and organizational effectiveness. Serve as a trusted internal consultant to HR Leadership and Regional Executive staff. Effectively establish and deploy OD initiatives that drive measurable results.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Minimum ten (10) years of previous work experience consulting to complex organizations across a range of industries.

  • Minimum ten (10) years of previous work experience coaching senior level executives.


  • Master's degree in organization development, organizational behavior or related fields.

License, Certification, Registration

  • N/A

Additional Requirements:

  • Expertise in behavioral sciences, organization development, leadership development, change management and culture change.

  • Knowledge of personality and social psychology, particularly in areas of motivation and change.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated political savvy and emotional intelligence.

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Management experience

  • Ph.D in organization development, organizational behavior or related fields.
