Kaiser Permanente Supervisor Sterile Processing in Honolulu, Hawaii
Supervises activities of sterile processing services. Directs efficient cleaning, sterilization, and delivery of sterilized and clean equipment within the Medical Center. Develops, implements, and monitors quality assurance program. Analyzes records, data, trends, and feedback from administration and other departments to meet quality assurance service goals on an ongoing basis. Serves as a role model. Supervises assigned staff.
Develops, maintains, and updates policy and procedure manual for Sterile Processing Department (SPD). Implements applicable department policy and procedures. Recommends changes in guidelines, procedures and policies.
Updates and revises procedures to coordinate reprocessing and reassembly of supplies and equipment used in care and treatment of patients as needed. Develops procedures for new equipment and instruments as necessary. Maintains adequate quantities to meet patient care demands.
Maintains process for and monitors cleaning of all equipment. Identifies equipment needs and submits requisitions/recommendations for purchase. Initiates work orders. Reports equipment needs and safety hazards. Works with Maintenance and Clinical Technology department for equipment prevention maintenance, including parts replacement and repairs.
Develops, implements and monitors quality assurance program. Analyze records, data, trends, and feedback from administration and other departments to meet quality assurance service goals on ongoing basis. Plans and prioritize execution of sterilization parameters. Manages instrument inventory. Ensures instrument trays are in optimal condition. Manages preventive maintenance of surgical instrumentation. Is knowledgeable and proficient in SPD's instrument tracking system. Coordinates receiving, documentation, staging and sterilization of vendor owned instrumentation.
Monitors, orders, and maintains adequate stock of supplies and equipment.
Develops and maintains good working relationship with all hospital and clinic departments by providing service and open communication. Keeps abreast of user needs and changing requirements. Ensures full understanding and acceptance of SPD procedures. Attends outside department (OR) huddles and reviews OR schedules with SPD staff. Collaborates with OR counterpart regularly to assess and pro-actively address real time changes in OR schedule.
Communicates with departments services, including outlying clinics. Provides full understanding of Sterile Processing capabilities and means of utilizing support services. Provides consultative services to departments that reprocess reusable instrumentation. Participates in preoperative services, departmental and committee meetings. Acts as a resource to internal and external stakeholders regarding sterile processing services.
Employs strategies to promote workplace safety and health. Uses regulatory and accreditation standards, and evidence-based professional guidelines to implement workplace safety practices.
Assist the Sterile Processing Manager as needed.
Hires, trains, supervise, counsels, disciplines, and terminates assigned staff as appropriate. Participates in ongoing educational and competency validation activities related to Sterile Processing.
Communicates goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities, and authority parameters to assigned staff.
Serves as a professional role model and educator, mentor, consultant and resource promoting the professional development of others.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Central Supply Tech or Surgical Tech.
Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) OR Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by International Association of Healthcare Central Services Materiel Management (IAHCSMM).
If candidate has surgical tech experience, Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) OR Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by International Association of Healthcare Central Services Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) required within 12 months from the date of hire.
