Kaiser Permanente Clinical Pharmacy Research Scientist (MT-2226) in Downey, California

Serves as principal investigator and/or project team member on major health services or epidemiological research projects for the Southern California Region Pharmacy Department. Serves as resource for analytical teams and Pharmacy Leadership on various types of pharmacy related issues. Strong interpersonal skills essential. Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of one's actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Maintains knowledge of and assures departmental compliance with Kaiser Permanente's Principles of Responsibility and policies and procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Designs, develops, directs and obtains funding for research projects. Acts as resource for colleagues and external clients in the extraction, processing and analysis of data.

  • Mentors other research team members and assists with training of students, residents, fellows, and colleagues.

  • Develops and publishes manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and presents research at scientific meetings

  • Serves on and may chair research related committees.

  • Provides consultation to departmental and regional leadership and committees.

  • Interacts with scientific community locally and nationally.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience to include minimum five (5) years of professional experience in conducting original research and publishing full-length, first-authored, peer-reviewed papers.


  • PhD, PharmD, or master's degree in biomedical research, pharmacy or related field, OR six (6) years of experience in a directly related field.

License, Certification, Registration

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in all advanced statistical techniques and study designs commonly used in epidemiological and health services research.

  • Experience applying new statistical/research methods and techniques.

  • Experience in pharmacy outcomes research.

  • Experience with common statistical software applications.

  • Experience with personal computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database and graphics.

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in conducting original research
