Kaiser Permanente Report and Systems Developer (Epic EMR) in Portland, Oregon
The Report and System Developer of Revenue Cycle handles all phases of the reporting development lifecycle, including planning, documentation, development, issue identification and resolution, status reporting, and risk mitigation. Will develop, enhance, and programmatically automate data extracts from various complex computer systems to support revenue reporting, including revenue capture, billing, collections, auditing, and governmental regulatory compliance. Develop ad-hoc system databases and/or applications to meet business and regulatory needs. Assist the organization in making strategic data-related decisions and is critical to accurate use of the systems in reporting to management. Translate business needs into requirements and prepares detailed specifications and action plans from which reports, data extracts, programs and/or databases will be developed for analytical review, operational processes and system stabilization. Work with business partners as the NW revenue cycle reporting systems liaison with General Accounting, Kaiser National, KPIT, KP HealthConnect, Program Office and others. The position is responsible for the integrity, configuration, maintenance and modifications of departmental servers, databases, and programming applications to preserve appropriate security, system controls and backup.
Essential Functions: - Handle all phases of the report development lifecycle and/or system project plan that support the billing, collection and reporting of revenue to ensure high quality deliverables and adherence to timeframes and budget. Design and develop revenue cycle statistical and operational reports/extracts by extracting and manipulating data from various complex databases (Teradata, SQL Server, MS Access, Oracle, and DB2). Perform cost/benefit analysis, feasibility analysis, impact analysis, and risk assessments for reports/projects. Define system objectives and scope and prepare detailed specifications from which reports, data extracts, programs and/or databases will be developed for analytical review, operational processes and system stabilization. Use reporting tools effectively for best business practices. - Develop, enhance, implement and maintain departmental applications, programming code, and databases to support business practices. Test and debug programming code to verify accurate language syntax and logical algorithmic structure. Consults with leadership to develop strategies and processes for database and application support. Define and frame complex multi-dimensional healthcare issues and translate needs, issues, and ideas into effective strategies and action plans. - Serve as the revenue reporting systems technical consultant and liaison for business partners affected by the revenue cycle. Work directly with Revenue Cycle Leaders, Regional Controllers, Program Offices, Compliance Officers, and their respective staff on the implementation of reports, extracts, databases and/or applications. - Manage the integrity and configuration of the departmental databases and servers to preserve appropriate security and system controls. Coordinate departmental data backup and recovery plans with KPIT and participate in disaster recovery processes. Recommend new or upgrade of departmental software and hardware. Provide end-users first level support for PC-based databases and programs. Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Experience - Minimum three (3) years of experience in SQL programming. - Minimum three (3) years of report writing skills using relational database tools (i.e., MS Access, SQL, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, etc.). - Experience using VB, VBA or other programming language. - Experience with Microsoft Office, including Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Education - Bachelor's degree in computer sciences, mathematics, statistics, communications or other related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field. - High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. License, Certification, Registration - Obtain Epic certification in one (1) or more of Clarity modules (i.e., Clarity Professional Billing, Clarity Hospital Billing, etc.) within one (1) year after completion of required Epic courses. - Must maintain Epic certification status per Epic requirements.
Additional Requirements: - Extensive experience with decision support systems, data warehouse and/or management reporting required. - Strong analytical and problem solving skills with experience in computerized business systems. - Thorough knowledge of SQL and VB/VBA programming. - Thorough knowledge of structured computer programming logic and programming strategies. - Excellent problem solving, communication and time management skills. - Advanced interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal) to deal effectively in delicate, sensitive and/or complex situations with a wide variety of influential internal and external parties. - Knowledge of basic accounting principles. - Excellent customer service skills. - Typing test of fourty (40) wpm and data ten (10) key testing are required.
Preferred Qualifications: - Minimum three (3) years of experience using VB/VBA programming which includes experience developing computer applications and/or workbooks for end-users. - Kaiser Permanente operational experience. - Experience in managing projects in a healthcare setting. - Experience in computer financial systems, preferably with Kaiser Permanente. - Experience as a systems coordinator, programmer and/or analyst. - Experience in a hospital or large group practice reimbursement department in a management capacity. - Experience with HTML and web site design. - Knowledge of Kaiser Permanente project methodology. - Knowledge of health plan membership, pharmacy and claims database systems. - Knowledge and familiarity with health care provider data and billing data/issues. - Knowledge of health care benefits, insurance regulations and revenue cycle. - Knowledge of Epic's Resolute Professional and/or Hospital billing modules or other large-scale clinician practice and/or hospital billing systems. - Demonstrated ability to define and frame complex multi-dimensional healthcare issues and translate needs, issues, and ideas into effective strategies and action plans.
