Kaiser Permanente Childlife Specialist/Coordinator in Los Angeles, California

Meets the psychosocial needs of hospitalized children through a play activity program. Provides play opportunities and other experiences in order to minimize the negative emotional and developmental impact of hospitalization.

Essential Functions: - Develops, implements and evaluates/improves Child Life Programs for hospitalized Pediatric patients. - Provides age appropriate therapeutic play activities for the ambulatory and bedridden pediatric patient which assists in coping with their illness and hospitalization. - Assists children in the development of coping strategies through play, recreation, and art. - In conjunction with other health care team members, identifies current patient needs and develops care plan goals. - Participates in multi-disciplinary care conferences. - Ensures each child's program is consistent with TJC and other regulatory requirements. - In conjunction with others, coordinates the Child Life Program volunteers. - Orients, trains, and supervises volunteers and students who provide support on the pediatric unit. - Develops and implements in-service training to hospital staff in the area of Child Life. - Monitors the effectiveness of the program.

Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Experience - Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Child Life Specialist. Education - Bachelor's degree in child life or related field (i.e. early childhood development, recreation therapy) OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field. - High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. License, Certification, Registration - Child Life Specialist certification required within one (1) year of hire. - Valid BLS card.

Additional Requirements: - Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications: - In-patient hospital experience preferred. - Master's degree and one (1) year post-graduate master's preferred. - Certification in Child Life Development. - Certified Child Life Specialist. - Master in Child Development Preferred. - Experience in Care Experience Delivery and family centered care. - Effective Communication. - Experience in acute care inpatient facility.
